Valentine's Day Date Ideas for Outdoor Lovers

Ohh, Valentine's Day. It's a mushy-gushy day to celebrate the love you have for that special someone in your life. Well, you know what they say: Couples that hike together, stay together. Maybe that's because love in the outdoors is by far sweeter! So whether you're celebrating your partner, yourself, or your love for the great outdoors, make space for some new lovey-dovey memories this Valentine's Day with these five fun date ideas.

    1. Catch the sunrise

Sunsets are great and all, but is there anything more beautiful than watching the first colors of the day spread across the sky? Wake up early, bundle up, brew some coffee to go, and drive to a special place to watch the sunrise with your significant other. It's the perfect way to start a love-filled day!

    2. Get tickets to a drive-in

If you've never been to a drive-in movie, Valentine's Day gives you a great excuse to go. This old-fashioned date is a classic for a reason. Pack the car with blankets and watch a cheesy rom-com flicker on the big screen while you stay toasty warm in your own little bubble. I mean, talk about a cute and cozy date!

     3. "If it ain't broke....

...why fix it??" Loading up the car to go camping never gets old. Cook good food, cheers cold drinks from the cooler, roast s'mores by the fire, play cards, and cuddle in the tent. Whether you keep it simple or go the glamping route, the most important thing is that you're spending time together and making memories.

    4. Stargazing

The tried-and-true romantic classic that needs no explanation - stargazing. Grab that heart-shaped box of chocolates and a bottle of wine and cozy up while you look for shooting stars. You can use an app like SkyView® to help you identify constellations or, just like with the flavors in the box of chocolates, half the fun is guessing!

    5. No shame in going solo

Whoever said you couldn't celebrate Valentine's Day as a single person is mistaken. There's a lot to be said about further developing the most important relationship in your life: the one you have with yourself. So show yourself some love and take a solo trip. It's your time to crack open that book you've wanted to read or hike that trail you've had your eye on. Do whatever it is you enjoy most; today is YOUR day.

Backpacking evokes images of overstuffed packs with gear strapped all over the outside - an uncomfortable monstrosity you're supposed to strap to your back and carry for miles. It doesn't have to be that way - even as a beginner backpacker, you can carry a sleek, lightweight pack by focusing on the essentials and leaving the rest.
