We woke up on September 1st in Hanover, NH which is home to Dartmouth College. We slept behind the baseball field on campus and here we are having our more coffee and free donut outside of Lou’s, a local spot that loves hikers. The next morning we left our spot behind the baseball fields and continued our hike north to Lyme, NH where we met a trail Angel that invited us over for the evening. He owned a canoe and we took it out on the water and scored a small mouth bass.
A few days later we reached the 1800 mile mark. Heading into the White Mountains for our first 4,000 footer of the state. The climb up to Mt Moosilauke was grueling and we got our first taste of what it was going to be like hiking in the true north.
After our descent from Moosilauke we found ourselves at the famed hiker vortex Old Colony Ski Club. Leaving the Ski Club we take on our next major climb of The Whites, and scramble our way up The Kinsmans. From the peak of South Kinsman we stare across at the night tower of Mt Lincoln along Franconia Ridge.
After completing both south and north Kinsman we set up camp in the Kinsman Pond Shelter. The following day would end in one of the most epic sunsets summits of my life atop Mt Lafayette.
