You don't have to choose between an ultralight pack or comfort at camp—the Light Bed has it all. Our 2-piece ultralight sleeping bag combines the warmth and draft-free performance of a mummy bag with the luxurious comfort of a backpacking quilt. It's built to feel like your bed at home with a sheet below you and a quilt above so you can get a comfortable, natural night's sleep outdoors without the constriction of a mummy bag. We've refined every aspect to save weight including using performance fabrics, high-quality down and synthetic insulation, and a unique ultra-secure hook and loop system to add versatility to the setup. We built the Light Bed for performance so you can go further outdoors in comfort.
What makes the Light Bed the best ultralight backpacking sleep system?
Freedom To Move
Traditional backpacking quilts tend to use strap systems that are downright claustrophobic. They pin you to the mattress, making it difficult to move naturally. The Light Bed easily solves these problems. The fitted sheet and ultralight top quilt pair together with a simple system of hooks & loops to create a complete sleeping “bag” that offers far more versatility, comfort, and space to sleep naturally, in any position you need to.
Regulate Your Sleep Temperature
The Light Bed adapts to a wide range of temperatures. Sleeping hot? Easily kick your arms and legs out or "throw the covers off" to get quick, cooling relief. Cold night? Clip the quilt to the sheet and tuck in under the hood to ensure a draft-free night. Stay comfortable, no matter the season.
The Benefits of Having A Sheet
Clip the Light Quilt to the hinged “wings” of the fitted sheet and experience the freedom of being able to move around without constriction or side drafts. The sheet’s large integrated hood not only insulates your head but acts as a cubby to keep your pillow in place. The nylon taffeta is buttery-soft against your skin but it's also protects your mattress, keeping it cleaner for longer on those dirty backpacking trips!
Shop Complete Light Bed Sleep Systems
No need to build your Light Bed system from scratch. We've included everything you need to sleep comfortably on your next backpacking trip in one neat and complete, ultra-light and compact Light Bed Bundle.
Sure, we were able to shed weight by going completely zipper-less, but that wasn’t the only perk! By equipping the Light Bed with a system of color coded hooks & loops, you can attach the quilt to the sheet in multiple different “modes”, giving you evenmoreversatility in how you choose to use it. From tent to hammock, hostel to van, the separate top quilt is incredibly adaptable, allowing you to take comfort with you wherever you roam.
The Kylie-curve™ is a 3/4-length drawstring on the top edge of our quilts. Unlike traditional quilts that have a drawstring spanning the entire width, the shortened cord length on ours cinches only the center portion. It softly seals around your neck but doesn't shorten the overall usable width of the quilt. Cinching only the center portion leaves either edge of the quilt loose to drape at your sides to block drafts or to tuck up into the hood.
Convertible foot boxes allow you to use your quilt in a variety of situations and temperatures. However, many quilt makers leave a drafty hole at the cinch that lets in cold air. Zenbivy quilts are built with a curved drawcord instead of one that runs straight along the bottom edge. This upward curve creates a natural baffle—the Origami Baffle™—that is then snapped to the back of the foot box so when you cinch it shut, that baffle blocks the hole to securely seal in warmth.
The perfectly engineered baffle system on the Light Quilts maximizes thermal efficiency. Smaller baffles position the down precisely where it’s needed and minimize down-shift. Vertical baffles around your upper body prevent down from sliding off your shoulders and the horizontal baffles on the top of the foot box keep down from shifting with foot movement.
Built for all sleep positions, the Light Sheet features a wide rectangular hood that provides extra space and restriction-free warmth around your head and arms. The hood also acts as a cubby to keep your camp pillow from wandering away in the middle of the night.
You'll find that most down backpacking quilt makers shed weight by using thin, clingy 10d fabrics. We want lightweight gear too, but let’s not get weird about it... We found more clever ways to ditch ounces while keeping the fabric a very smooth, comfy, and durable 20d. 20d fabrics are much softer than traditional ultralight tech fabrics while being only a fraction heavier.
The Light Beds use top shelf 800 fill-power HyperDRY™ down. Built for performance, this premium down uses a natural wax-based compound to make it water resistant. It is durable, fluorocarbon-free, and RDS (Responsible Down Standard) compliant.
Starting at just 1 lb 13 oz and compressing down to the height of a Nalgene bottle, the ultra compact Light Bed is the best sleeping bag if you're an avid backpacker looking for comfort at the lowest possible weight and bulk.
